Ephesians 6:12 (ESV) – 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
God has supplied us with the armor we need to stand in this evil world. We must realize that our battle is not primarily a physical one, but a spiritual one. Satan is real. Demonic activity is not just stuff in movies. Paul calls them “authorities” and “cosmic powers” and “spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places”. He has used these phrases earlier in the letter in places like Ephesians 1:21 and Ephesians 3:10.
We are not called to win the battle against Satan. That battle has already been won by Jesus Christ. We are called to stand firm in the aftermath as we proclaim the Good News of victory to a lost world and wait until the final battles have ceased. It may seem difficult at times and it may feel like the end is never going to come, but God has given us all we need to stand strong.
