Psalm 20:1–9 (ESV)
1 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion!
3 May he remember all your offerings and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah
4 May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans!
5 May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions!
6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
8 They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.
9 O LORD, save the king! May he answer us when we call.

We pray because we hope for an answer. Prayer isn’t just for troublesome times but for a lifetime of help and support from God. We always need His protection.

We offer Him our lives as living sacrifices not to earn our salvation, but because we love Him and long for His favour to be upon us. When we delight ourselves in the Lord, He gives us of Himself, the desire of our hearts. 

We can rejoice in our salvation, because it has been earned for us by Christ’s death and resurrection on our behalf. We trust in the Lord because He is trustworthy, unlike all the things the world puts its confidence in that only fail. Only God is the never failing One.

If we rely on anything other than God in life, we’re going to fall flat on our faces. But if we trust in the Lord, He’ll raise us up. He will save us, and answer us when we call.

“Dear Lord, we call upon You to save us. We don’t deserve Your salvation, and You don’t owe it to us. But You are faithful, and we trust in You, now and forevermore, amen.”
