1 John 4:8 (ESV)
8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

John tell us that “God is love.” Some make the mistake of reversing this statement to “love is God.” This is not the same. We cannot simply reverse the order. God is love and he is many other things as well, as we have been thinking about for the past several days. God’s nature is one of love, just as it is one of knowledge and power and justice and mercy.

God’s love for us is shown most fully in his rescue plan for mankind. John 3:16 tells us that it is because God loved us that he sent his one and only Son into the world to save us. Jesus Christ came to offer his life as a sacrifice for sinners so that we can be saved from our sin and have eternal life. God did not have to do this for us. He did it from love. Will you embrace the love of God and turn to Jesus in faith?
