Ephesians 6:17 (ESV) – 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
A helmet is a vital piece of equipment. It gives great defense against attack and injury, but it also gives great boldness to the one wearing it for offensive purposes. Paul identifies the Christian helmet as the “helmet of salvation”. It is our salvation that protects us in spiritual battle from what otherwise might be fatal blows. And it is our salvation that emboldens us to go into the world as heralds of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our salvation is secure and final, not because of what we can do, but because of what Jesus has done. Not attack from the enemy can change this. We are secure on our salvation. Knowing this, we can go with confidence into battle. Salvation is ours. Now, let us take it to others who desperately need it.
