Ephesians 2:19–22 (ESV)
19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
We continue with the theme of unity in the body of Christ. Christians are no longer strangers and aliens to one another, but fellow citizens with others in the household of God. We are family! We belong to the same household!
We are built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. This refers to the sacred Scriptures that teach and guide us together. And it is all built on Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone of the Christian faith. Paul uses the imagery of a building and tells us, as the household of God, that we are being built into a holy temple to the Lord. The temple was the place of worship and where God made his presence known. The church today is where the people of God come together in unity living their lives in worship and displaying the presence of God to the world.
