Reading the Word
Matthew 7:12 (ESV) — 12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Understanding and Applying the Word
Who disagrees with the Golden Rule? I do not know anyone, whether Christian or not. It seems simple enough. Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them. Or, as we commonly say it, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Treat people the way you want to be treated. The concept is wonderful and we all agree that it is right. This is why it is called the Golden Rule. If we would all only live by it, how different this world would be! Think more highly of others. Give others the benefit of the doubt. Do not jump to conclusions, but seek clarification. These are all things we would want others to do for us, but we often fail to do them for others. Let us commit to living by Jesus’ words found here in Matthew 7:12. We all agree that it is the right thing to do.
