Reading the Word
Psalm 28:6–9 (ESV)
6 Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. 8 The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed. 9 Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
Understanding and Applying the Word
After making petition for himself in the opening verses of Psalm 28, David now rejoices in knowing that God has heard his prayer. As a response to this truth, David bursts into song and praise!
O how often we take prayer for granted. Have you ever stopped to contemplate the amazing reality that God listens to our prayers? Why does he care so much about something so small and insignificant as me to listen to my prayers about my trivial life? Yet, he does. And he tells us that we can go to him with our burdens and our cares because he cares for us (1 Peter 5:6-7)! God hears our prayers and that should make our hearts sing for joy!
