Ephesians 2:14–18 (ESV)
14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
There is one people of God and it is found in the Church. Since all are reconciled to God in the same way, through the blood of Jesus Christ, there should be no dividing lines. There are no individuals or groups more deserving than others. There are no individuals or groups that are on a different path of salvation. We are all saved from our sin the same way – faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ who died for us. This is true for both Jew and Gentile. This is true for both men and women. This is true for both Democrat and Republican. In the Church, we are united in Christ and there should no longer be hostility or division.
When you think of your church, there are people from all walks of life. All of them have been saved the same way. Our union in Christ is better and stronger than any other differences we may have, so there should be a bond of unity and peace in our congregations. We no longer look at the things that divide us, but we look to the One who unites us as his chosen people. May we seek and live in the peace he has called us to.
